Lillie Goldsmith Cowen (Known as Mrs. Phillip Cowen) was a descendant of Jewish Irish professors.  Aged  11 months her family moved to the United States.  She was the first woman to translate the Haggadah and her translation, in 1904, was the first English Haggadah translation done in the Americas.  This edition of her Haggadah was printed along with the Jewish Welfare Board for soldiers of the American Army during World War I.  The Jewish Welfare Board was created on the 9^th of April 1917, 3 days after the United States declared war on Germany.

Lillie Goldsmith Cowen (conocida como Mrs. Phillip Cowen) fue decendiente de profesores Judios Irlandeses.  Teniendo once meses de edad su familia se mudo a Estados Unidos.  Fue la primera mujer en traducir la Haggadah y la suya, en 1904, fue la primera traducción al Ingles de la Haggadah hecha en las Americas.   Esta versión de su Haggadah la imprimió junto al Jewish Welfare Board para soldados del ejercito Americano participando en la Primera Guerra Mundial.  El Jewish Welfare Board fue creado el 9 de Abril de 1917, 3 dias después de que Estados Unidos le declarara la guerra a Alemania.
