ORIGINAL LETTERS ABOUT PASSOVER France/Germany 1919

Pvt. Harry W. Nadel
Company A, 51st Pioneer Infantry, U.S. Army (AEF)

A Jewish-American soldier from New York, Harry served with the 51st Pioneer Infantry in France and Germany after World War I. His unit helped rebuild roads and bridges during the Allied occupation. In April 1919 he wrote home to his mother, Mrs. Max Nadel, from Army Post Office 775—one of the last months before returning to the United States. Before and after the war, Harry was connected to Paramount in New York’s early film industry. His surviving letters reflect duty, optimism, and the longing of a young man serving far from home at the dawn of peace.
